Words by The Kid Skoob

After more than a decade behind the scenes at Hot 97 producing The Angie Martinez show, DJ Drewski has become one of the most indispensable talents at New York’s flagship hip-hop station. In addition to DJing and producing shows for Cipha Sounds and DJ Enuff, he also works as an A&R and DJ for performing artists Maino and Jim Jones.

Most recently he has teamed up with Cipha Sounds to form The MVMNT, a hub for new music and art spearheaded by a global collective of DJs and artists. Part of this effort will be a Sunday evening show named after their clique designed to be an outlet for Tri-State talent, focused on playing and breaking the hottest and newest artist in the city. The show features Hip Hop, R&B, Pop from mainstream to emerging artists in the tri-state area.

“For me, it’s a blessing to be on Hot 97 myself and even a bigger blessing to use what I have to help others live their dreams,” says thew NJ native Drewski. “It’s one thing to be a DJ and play music on the radio, but it’s another to be able to break a artist and always be apart of that persons life/career forever!”

In a sit-down with The Kid Skoob for WatchLOUD he offers some advice for new artists and talks about which ti-state MCs he’s checking for right now.

“I tell artists think to yourself who you’re competing against. (If) you want to come to HOT97 it’s  gotta be A1. Inspire yourself and put yourself on the highest level as possible…play your recored next to a Kendrick Lamar record and you’ll hear a difference. If you don’t you’re doing great.”
