SPEAK is having one hell of a run right now. You might know him for co-writing Kreayshawn’s only hit “Gucci Gucci,” but the Moreno Valley, CA spitter has been flaming fellow rappers lately, first with his three Sex Quest EPs (produced entirely by the much-too-slept-on Caleb Stone) and then with the Falltime Radness EP this past November, also made entirely with one producer, Dre Rodner.
Today we’re premiering “Platinum,” one of four tracks from the Falltime Radness EP and a showcase for SPEAK’s quick-witted rhymes. Only the man with the hair of Jesus could spit, “Blood moon, you shine like an amulet, dark shadow with the color of a Cabernet / I’m Lil’ Romeo, fucking all the Capulets, did dirt but the cops didn’t get me yet.”
“My last stay in New York was one of the most intense creative periods I’ve experienced,” SPEAK told watchLOUD about the inspiration behind the video. “Everything moved really fast and my recording process was only accelerated by the city’s pace. Nothing felt real. I met director Gennis Spasto during a chance meeting at Black Wax studios. She offered up a dream sequence treatment involving a Chinese Hair Salon & 90’s choreography. I was sold.”
We’re sold too. Watch the trippy “Platinum” visual above and make sure to cop the EP right here. SPEAK is quietly making some of the best hip-hop out right now.
