Marvel Studios has the box office on lockdown when it comes to their Cinematic Universe, so you’d better believe that Fox is gonna take its most successful superhero franchise and run with it. Fox debuted the first official trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse earlier this morning (December 11), and the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been.
Taking place about a decade after the events of the still confusing Days of Future Past, Apocalypse finds Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and his X-Men facing off against Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) aka En Sabah Nur, an ancient and all-powerful mutant. Plenty of old and new faces can be seen in the bunch, including Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto; but Alexandra Shipp as Storm and Lana Condor as Jubilee also show up to give fans an aneurysm. They look *fantastic*! It’s looking like Storm will become one of Apocalypse’s Four Horseman as well, which is a new development in and of itself.
It’s hard not to see the similarities to The Hunger Games, especially with Jennifer Lawrence (not in makeup) running around commanding underlings, but either way, May 27th, 2016 can’t come soon enough. Check out he trailer above.
