It’s not everyday that artists get to interview other artists, but Boom Bap Nation got the opportunity to film a conversation between legendary MCs KRS-One and Rakim.
When KRS asked the God MC about the alleged jazz influence on his cadence, he not only confirmed the influence, but let go that he started off playing saxophone as a child and was inspired by none other than John Coltrane: “I heard John Coltrane play two note at one time, and being that I played the sax I knew that was impossible. You can’t play two notes at the same time,” he explained. “When I heard that, it not only made me think of taking things to the next level, but…these cats is innovating music, man.”
