UPDATE: Top Dawg Entertainment just shared a video featuring images of Kendrick with President Obama and video of him playing ball with a young kid for Mentor/My Brother’s Keeper. Watch him pay it forward below.
Kendrick Lamar can already say that he has co-signs from President Barack Obama, but actually being in the Oval Office together is taking things to a completely different level.
Around the 39:50 mark of the latest episode of Buzzfeed‘s Another Round podcast, White House senior advisor Valerie Jarrett told hosts Heben & Tracy that hip-hop’s current top dawg had recently stopped through to see Obama:
ANOTHER ROUND: Who is your favorite rapper?
JARRETT: Oh my gosh—
ANOTHER ROUND: It’s OK if you don’t listen to rap, but if you do, I do need to know.
JARRETT: I like Jay Z, I like Jay Z.
ANOTHER ROUND: Got a favorite song?
JARRETT: Not really, but you know what, Kendrick Lamar was just here, too. You know what, I was really impressed with him—
ANOTHER ROUND: He was here?
JARRETT: He was at the White House. He came and he visited the president, and you know what the president said to him? [Because] he was a little nervous — bless his heart, he’s really a very nice young man, and the president said, “Can you believe that we’re both sitting in this Oval Office?”
Cornrow Kenny just joined the same shortlist as Jay-Z, Eazy-E, Snoop Dogg, and Queen Latifah. Listen to the whole podcast above.
