Clarence “Blowfly” Reid passed away earlier this evening (January 17) at the age of 76 from terminal liver cancer, and the hip-hop world has done its part to mourn the rap pioneer.
Reid enjoyed a long career writing R&B/funk songs for many a group, but also performed as his explicit and hilarious alter ego Blowfly, complete in a shiny superhero suit. Reid went into hospice care earlier this week and revealed that 77 Rusty Trombones would be his final album. It’s streaming on Soundcloud now and will be out in digital/physical formats soon.
