On Monday, January 18th Blackout for Human Rights and the Campaign for Black Male Achievement hosted “MLK Now,” a special MLK Day event to celebrate and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The moving event took place at Harlem’s Riverside Church – where Dr. King performed his famous 1967 speech “Beyond Vietnam: A Time To Break Silence.” The event featured historic speeches performed by some of today’s leading actors — including Chris Rock, Oscar-Winner Octavia Spencer, Michael B. Jordan, Tony Award-Winner Anika Noni Rose, Tessa Thompson, and more.
Among the many highlights of #MLKNow were the legendary Harry Belafonte recounting his relationship with Dr. King and how young they both were a the heigh of the civil rights movement. This was followed by a moving performance by Anika Noni Rose singing J. Cole’s “Be Free,” and an intimate conversation between the North Carolina MC and director Ryan Coogler (3:30:00-3:57:00).
