In the latest installment of his interview with VLADTV, rap legend The D.O.C. talks about his past and current relationship with Erykah Badu. The two artists have a daughter together named Puma, Badu’s second child. D.O.C, who made his name on the West Coast working with Dr. Dre on classics like “The Formula,” is originally from Dallas and knew Badu when she was young.
“She was Apples. MC Apples. She used to be with this girl named TJ and we would be in the same circles,” he tells VLAD. “A skinny little kid, but she had gorgeous eyes even then. But she grew up to be something else, didn’t she. She’s dope.”
The D.O.C. calls Badu his closest friend and she even DJ’d for him at a show last year. Badu’s other children are with rappers Andre 3000 (Seven) and Jay Electronica (Mars), considered to be elite lyricists by any rap fan wort their salt. Is there any chance that their offspring would form a group?
“I tell you what man. They could sure do it. They’re talented kids. They’re beautiful kids, I’ve been around them my whole life. Seven and Mars are both really special to me and Puma is daddy’s baby. I’m in L.A. now but if I had my way I’d be home (in Dallas) with my baby. She’s 11 years old now, so daddy time is important. Trying to build myself a situation (here in L.A.) that I could bring back home.
As for his co-parents, is there any desire for him to record with 3 Stacks and Jay Elec?
“They’re great friends. There is no hate in that house. We all love one another and want the best for one another. I’m a fan of both of those guys. They both like my music and want the best for me. If I called any one of them they’d come. But I’m not into that. But I certainly respect them a great deal and love them a great deal. And their kids.”
