Killer Mike makes as many waves as a community-minded activist as he does as a rapper. During Bernie Sanders’s visit to Atlanta last year, Mike hosted the presidential candidate and interviewed him in his barbershop. The success of that has led Mike to his second barbershop interview with Olympic gold medalist Tommie Smith, one of the two U.S. athletes (the other being John Carlos) who threw up Black Power Fists in the iconic photo of the 1968 games.
Mike and Smith talk about the context behind the stance and whether or not celebrities should feel obligated to speak out on social issues. It’s a riveting conversation, one that we hope will convince Mike to keep this going in the future. Check it out above.
