It appears that Drake and Meek were not going to be outdone by this week’s battles between B.oB and Science and Kanye & Wiz. Just weeks away from NBA All-Star Weekend, Drake premiered new music on his OVO Sound Radio station on Beats 1, including a new collection of subliminal jabs at both Meek and …The POTUS?
On “Summer Sixteen” Drake begins by saying that he’s “looking for revenge” before telling President Obama that his verses are bullet proof like the whips that he’s in, possibly in response to the POTUS saying that he prefers Kendrick to Drizzy. He then goes on to taunt Meek, compare himself to Jay Z and say that his pool is bigger than Kanye’s. The lines are bite-size and meme-able darts that will get more attention for who they mention than what they actually say. It is reported to be the first single from “Views From The 6,” which now has an April release date.
“Oh it’s your time now” yeah, that’s what everybody say/Used to wanna be on Roc-A-Fella then I turned into Jay
Now I got a house in LA, Now I got a bigger pool than Ye/And look man, Ye’s pool is nice, mine is just bigger is what I’m saying...”
Other lines on the track “how you let me run it down here” have some listeners wondering if Drake may inadvertently start a border war between Canada and the US that would have South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone chomping at the bit. However, Canadian politician Norm Kelly may have worn out his welcome, with his diss Tweets sounding more and more like they were written by the Hamburger Helper or Burger King social handles.
Meek’s rebuttal “War Pain”–which sounds like he was in the booth with Drake countering it bar for bar–anchors another “4/4” EP. In what may be his best answer to Drake since starting this feud last year, the Philly MC calls Drake out for comparing himself to Hov and threatens to steal his OVO chain when he sees him:
“See an OVO chain, probably take that shit/Said dreamin’ wasn’t enough, we had to chase that shit/You ain’t write it’ nigga, we caught ya, can’t erase that shit/And you claimin’ you HOV now? Why you state that shit?”
As for who told Meek about the subject matter in “Summer Sixteeen,” he offers one possibility…and it ain’t Nicki:”The ghost writer told me!”
