Suspense for De La Soul’s latest album And The Anonymous Nobody has been mounting since their Kickstarter campaign raked in over $600K this past May. Today, the trio finalized a deal with independent distributor Kobalt Label Services to give the album a big PR boost.
The album is still being released via the group’s label AOI Records, but now Anonymous Nobody will be stocked on shelves across the country. “This is the perfect home for De La Soul and AOI Records. Kobalt operates with complete transparency and has built the tools for us to harness all the data we could ever ask for,” one of De La’s managers Brandon Hixon said in a press release. “It’s all about the portal, the real time reporting is amazing; Kobalt is the future of music.”
During an exclusive sit-down with Rolling Stone, the trio played the album, which is expected to drop at the end of April. De La Confirmed guests include Snoop Dogg, 2 Chainz, Damon Albarn, Usher, Jill Scott, Roc Marciano, David Byrne, Estelle, and Pete Rock, among others. It’s also supposedly some of the most avant-garde work they’ve released since their debut 3 Feet High & Rising.
