Prince Paul May Be The Reason Why MF Doom Uses Imposters

Paul Doom

The legendary Prince Paul has been around the hip-hop block more than a few times. During an appearance on Combat Jack’s podcast earlier this week (February 9), Paul broke down some highlights from a career that spans 31 years.

One of the most ear-catching quotes to drop involved everybody’s favorite super villain MF Doom. Around the 47:20 mark, Paul recalls Doom (real name Daniel Dumile) running the idea of using an imposter by him since he couldn’t play a show due to a family-related emergency. “I’d try it, and see what happens,” Paul remembers telling him. So we have Prince Paul to thank for every Doombot that’s graced a stage?

Paul and Combat Jack spent close to two hours talking about his work with Stetsasonic, turning down Prince’s invitation to work with George Clinton, and how his 1996 debut solo album Psychoanalysis: What Is It? helped revitalize his career. Check out the whole thing above.
