Drake has announced in an Instagram post that he has signed to UK based Grime label BBK (Boy Better Know). In the post he wrote, “The first Canadian signed to BBK. Big up my brudda @skeptagram for life yeah. And my section gunners too.” Drake was “across the pond” performing with Rihanna at the Brit Awards and was filmed at a Section Boyz show later that night.
Drake has been making not so subtle nods to Skepta and the BBK label in both songs and on his skin. On Lil Wayne’s 2014 track “Used To,” Drake cribs a line from Skepta’s “That’s Not Me”: “Shout out to the G’s from the ends, We don’t love no girls from the ends,” he raps in homage to the BBK co-founder’s line: “Love for the G’s in the ends, But we don’t love no girls in the ends.” Drake also got a tattoo of the label on his shoulder several months ago.
There is no word at this time if this means his contract with Cash Money is over or is this a separate deal for his label OVO.
