Pete Rock and CL Smooth Reunite For Tour & New Music

CL Smooth and Pete Rock

With the 1990s making a resurgence on screen and in today’s R&B it’s only right that one of the greatest duos of the era make some of their oldest fans wishes come true. Last night legendary producer and DJ Pete Rock posted a photo on his Instagram page of himself with MC CL Smooth, the man he recorded an EP and two classic albums with, 1992’s Mecca & The Soul Brother and 1994’s The Main Ingredient.

Lmao! Had a great meeting of the minds with da big homie!#itsaboutdattime #hiphop4life #weback” he wrote. The two split after 1994’s The Main Ingredient and recorded several albums apart. CL made appearances on Pete’s projects Soul Survivor (1998), PeteStrumentals (2001) and Soul Survivor II (2004) and recorded two solo albums of his own, 2006’s American Me and 2007’s The Outsider. They reunited years later to tour in 2013 and reps for Pete Rock have confirmed to WatchLOUD that not only are they planning a new tour, but will be getting in the studio to record new music.

Pete Rock is also putting the finishing touches on his collaborative album with Harlem’s Smoke DZA, who recently told WatchLOUD that it’s “Pete Rock in 2016.”

Lmao! Had a great meeting of the minds with da big homie! #itsaboutdattime #hiphop4life #weback 😉
