As if Marvel’s upcoming Luke Cage series for Netflix wasn’t highly anticipated enough, the score is being handled by hip-hop greats. During an interview with Pitchfork about their work on Kendrick Lamar’s untitled unmastered, A Tribe Called Quest’s Ali Shaheed Muhammad and musician Adrian Younge let it slip that they were working on the score of a TV show with Brainfeeder musician Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, and Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker confirmed that it would be for Cage.
“It’s very sophisticated. I mean, it’s got a ’90s hip-hop vibe, but it’s really forward-thinking,” Coker told Entertainment Weekly. “We have Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad doing the scoring for us.” The series premieres September 30 and you can check the first teaser trailer below.
