Early this morning, Usher took to Twitter to drop his latest song, “No Limit” featuring Young Thug.
While the rest of the blog-verse has been praising or being mum about the No Limit Soldier-inspired track, I’ve decided to be 100% honest with you: It’s trash.
On the Brandon “B.A.M.” Hodge and Christopher Perry-produced single, Usher moans “I C-Murda that, No Limit/ Give you that ghetto D, girl/ No Limit.” Seriously.
Now seeing that Usher is only 37, the lyrics to the song don’t necessarily give off “creepy uncle” vibes, but more so the” wannabe cool uncle” vibes. You know, the uncle that knows all the latest dance moves and always hits you with the “What you know about this,” when his jam comes on? Yeah, that’s Usher.
Young Thug’s verse is the saving grace of the song. No, seriously it’s the only thing that kept me listening for 2 minutes and 46 seconds. Now, it’s been a minute since we’ve gotten some new music from the 8701 crooner. Last year, he dropped “Chains” with Nas and Bibi Bourelly.
It’s clear from “No Limit” that Usher is attempting to step outside of his slow jams and R&B bangers aesthetic which is fine. “No Limit” is a step into the “Trap & B” realm that artists like Chris Brown and August Alsina have ventured into, but do we really need Usher to go down that long and over-saturated road? Eh…
Usher’s forthcoming album, Flawed is set to drop sometime in the fall. Listen to the Tidal exclusive, “No Limit” here and let us know what you think.
