LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers defied history and came back from a 3-to-1 deficit in the NBA finals to emerge victorious. In a nail-biting game 7 the Cavaliers overcame an impressive 3-point shooting performance by the Golden State Warriors to win 93 to 89.
James also fulfilled his promise to the people of Cleveland, OH thanks to another triple-double, 27 points, 11 assists and 11 rebounds. Kyrie Irving added 26 points and Kevin Love, who had been maligned for much of the series, pulled down 14 rebounds. LeBron was named MVP of the finals.
It was an impressive win because Golden State’s Draymond Green put up 32 points and 15 rebounds, hitting 6 of 8 from long range. However, Steph Curry and Klay Thompson notched more pedestrian numbers, 17 and 14 points respectively, thanks to stifling defense by James and the Cavs.
This was not the ending the Warriors were hoping for after breaking the Chicago Bulls NBA record for wins in a regular season, 73. Curry, the unanimous league MVP this season, was very mortal in the finals, averaging 22.6 points. The Warriors also now hold the dubious distinction of the being the first team to blow a 3-1 NBA Finals lead.
While there will be a flood of crying Jordan memes, we have to tip our hats to the Cavs and JR smith for getting his first ring. Those tears were hard earned.
Ok, fine. Here are the memes, too.
