Kevin Hart apparently tried to hustle the hustlers last night (June 21) when he announced that he’s producing a film called Run the Jewels that has nothing to do with Killer Mike and El-P’s supergroup of the same name. The idea – stemming from a 2012 screenplay originally called F*ck Marry Kill – was pitched to Universal Studios by comedy writers Alex Blagg and Neel Shah about a “failed rappers who attempt to rob a eccentric hip-hop mogul.”
Naturally, El-P isn’t too happy about that:
The group has been active since their 2013 self-titled debut, but one could argue that their true origin goes as far back as 2012, when El-P produced all of Killer Mike’s R.A.P. Music. That and this tweet from 2013:
Killer Mike hasn’t commented as of this moment, but either way, expect this case to get sticky in the coming weeks.
