Update: In a new video, Lil Boosie spoke out about the shooting that took place over the weekend where three Baton Rogue police officers were killed. The Baton Rouge rapper believes that the shooting may be a result of the Alton Sterling shooting. “Alot of people are in their feelings down there. Even the older generation, it’s not just the younger generation,” he said. “It’s alot of anger down there,” he continued. “I don’t think it’s going to stop until they start convicting these officers of what they doing.”
Watch Lil Boosie give his opinion on what’s going on in his hometown below:
37-year-old Louisiana man Alton Sterling was killed by Baton Rouge law enforcement last night while he was detained face down on the ground. The video of the summary execution has become the latest example of police brutality and excessive force in the United States that has gone largely unpunished. The killing of Sterling, who was allegedly selling CDs outside of a convenience store when cops were called, echoes the choking death of Eric Garner, who was selling loose cigarettes outside of a convenience store. These incidents are prevalent in lower income communities and have gotten more national attention thanks to civilian recordings, but there is still a hurdle in obtaining indictments or convictions.
The officers in the Sterling shooting have been identified by Baton Rouge law enforcement as Blane Salamoni & Howie Lake. They each have less than five years of experience on the force. They have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
Rapper Lil Boosie is a native of Baton Rouge where Sterling was killed by police, and shared his history of run-ins with local police dating back to when he was 9 years old.
“Black Lives Matter is the truth” he told DJ Vlad, “I’ve been saying f*** the police [but] they ain’t believe me until technology came with all of these damn camera phones. Police killed one of our ghetto heroes in 1989. Jumped on a car and shot him down.” He added, “It’s been going on, I’ve been saying f*** the police.”
