All of the good work that Stones Throw Records has done over the last 20 years can be traced back to founder Peanut Butter Wolf and the late MC Charizma. Even though the duo’s debut album Big Shots wasn’t released until 2003 – a full decade after Charizma’s untimely death – it was the impetus that brought the label to life in 1996.
Today (July 6), on what would’ve been Charizma’s 43rd birthday, Peanut Butter Wolf shared a never before heard demo version of the sweet jam “High School Love,” which Wolf says was recorded at his house while the two were in high school. He says that “This was our closest version of Fresh Prince/LL Cool J,” but that they scrapped it shortly after.
