The July 8th edition of Music Friday contains a pretty eclectic mix of music even amongst the hip-hop releases.
1. Schoolboy Q, Blank Face
The TDE MC releases his long awaited fourth album which is anchored by the hit single “That Part,” which got a group think remix featuring all of his Black Hippy brethren.
2. The Avalanches, Wildflower
Sixteen ears after their debut Since I Left You the Australian trio of DJs has released a new collection of ambient hip-hop. This was released as an Apple Music streaming exclusive a week ago but is available everywhere now.
3. BadBadNotGood, IV
The jazz quartet released their last album III in 2014 and a collaborative album with Ghostface Killah called Sour Soul in 2015. IV picks up where they left off as “an exploration in post-genre virtuosity.”
4. Migos 3 Way EP
“I got the birds like Mighty Ducks” sums up everything you know about this latest from the Atlanta trio, who dropped their last traptastic project Young Rich Ni$$a$ earlier this year. We might caution not playing “Savages” at high volume today (or skipping it all together) as it opens with the lines “this goes out to all my cops killing innocent victims/fuck around/ get gunned down/ go get ‘em, go get ‘em…”
5. Tonedeff, Polymer
New York bred rapper/singer/producer continues his assault on musical boundaries with his long awaited second album. Polymer is Tonedeff’s follow-up to 2005’s critically acclaimed Archetype and consists of four separate EPS: Glutton, Demon, Hunger and Phantom. Polymer drops digitally today with physical editions shipping in early August. You can purchase it here.

6. Towkio, Community Service 2
