While on a press run for Atlanta, Donald Glover touched on the tones and premise behind the show. “The thesis with the show was kind of to show people how it felt to be black,” he said. “What was important to me was that this show was personal and had a specific take, because that’s all you can really ask for from a show nowadays, is having a specific point of view on something.”
Atlanta will drop on on September 6th on FX. Checkout the new promos below:
UPDATE 2: According to Deadline, Atlanta is premiering on FX September 6 at 10PM. Set your calendars now, even though we’ll remind you a bunch later this year.
UPDATE: FX Networks dropped the second Atlanta trailer last night (June 8), this time with Donald Glover putting flyers on cars. It’s got the same reverse effect we peeped in the first trailer, but it’s even eerier here. The scene was executed *backwards* and reversed in post-production, giving that Pharcyde look. Spooky.
Still no date, but the show’s set to premiere in September.
For someone as in the spotlight as Donald Glover, he sure fell off the face of the earth quickly. After his combination mixtape/EP S T N M T N/Kauai dropped back in 2014, he ghosted on Twitter, then the whole world. Other than a supporting part in both Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and The Martian, he’s been hard at work on his FX original series Atlanta, and now we finally have an idea of when it’s coming.
Donald, Keith Stanfield, and Brian Tyree Henry walking through the sunny saturated streets of ATL to the tune of potential new Childish Gambino? Color me interested. Even if those rumors of another Childish Gambino album aren’t true, we all have this to fall back on.
Atlanta stars Glover, Stanfield, Tyree Henry, and Zazie Beetz.
