Update: Common is exploring what Black Love is through the eyes of many different women in a short film which coincides with his latest single, “Love Star”. The 10- minute clip which premiered on Essence focuses on the different layers that come with love.
Common also took some time out to break down his definition of “Love Star.” “So, the theme, Love Star, came up just because I thought it was a cool nickname to call somebody that you’re close to,” the Chicago rapper said. “You know how people say, ‘Oh, that’s my bae’ or my ‘boo’ or ‘my girl,’ like we used to say. Love Star is like a beautiful way of describing somebody important in your life that you care about.”

In May, Common took to Instagram to announce that he’s putting his acting career on hold and returning to music. After months of teasing fans with freestyles and unreleased tracks, Common is back with the smooth track, “Lovestar” featuring Marsha Ambrosious and PJ.
Reminiscent of his earlier hit “Go,” the Chicago rapper spits about his sex game and the beauty of his current woman. Common originally premiered the smooth track at Essence Festival in July.
“Our fragrance is patience,” Common raps on the love track. “We can major in communication / Related like cousins, though we kissin’ though / Love can be sick or medicinal.”
