A Tribe Called Quest mural Queens

A Tribe Called Quest is as embedded in the legacy of Queens as Fats Waller or Etta James. The group helped start the alternative rap wave with the rest of the Native Tongues and now they’re being properly thanked with a mural in Queens.

The mural – brought to life by LeRoy McCarthy – will live on the side of Nu-Clear cleaners on the corner of Linden Blvd & 192 Street where the group filmed the video for Low End Theory single “Check The Rhime.” Low End Theory is a building block that turns 25 tomorrow, and in honor of the anniversary, Okayplayer followed muralist Vince Ballentine as he created the artwork.
