Update: There is a petition to rename Bankhead Highway from Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway to Shawty Lo Parkway in honor of his untimely passing. According to the petition started by Mecy Washington, after 2,500 signatures the request will be delivered to Atlanta mayor Kasim Reed where it will be considered.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, rapper Shawty Lo–real name Carlos Walker–was killed in a car crash on I-285 in Fulton County at approximately 2:20 am today. His brother confirmed the news via his Twitter account this morning. Shawty Lo was 40 years old.
Reports say a white Audi jumped a guardrail before hitting two trees and exploding. The driver was pronounced dead on the scene after being ejected from the vehicle. The two passengers in the car survived and were taken to the hospital with non-life -threatening injuries.
Shawty Lo made his name as a founding member of the group D4L who hit big in 2006 with their hit “Laffy Taffy.” He later on released the solo hit, “Dey Know” from his debut album Units In The City.
