The Blackest Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Flavors #BenAndJerrysNewFlavor

Last night Vermont based ice cream maker Ben & Jerry’s pledged their solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter movement in a poignant statement:

They matter because they are children, brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers.

They matter because the injustices they face steal from all of us — white people and people of color alike. They steal our very humanity.

Systemic and institutionalized racism are the defining civil rights and social justice issues of our time. We’ve come to understand that to be silent about the violence and threats to the lives and well-being of Black people is to be complicit in that violence and those threats. (Full statement here)

This is not completely surprising considering the political statements Ben & Jerry’s has made in the past expressing support of issues like gay marriage and voting rights via flavors like “Hubby Hubby” and “Empower Mint.”  They even named a special flavor after President Barack Obama called “Yes, Pecan!” and “That’s My Jam! Core” has to be the blackest one they ever made.

Twitter was elated at the show of support and many vowed to buy lots and lots of their ice cream.

It didn’t take long for users to start coming up with their own #BlacksLivesMatter inspired ice cream flavors and posted them on Twitter under the hash #BenAndJerrysNewFlavor . Check out some of the best ones below:

Damn, now we want some ice cream for real!
