Common‘s Black America Again was an impassioned return to form that dropped just over a week ago, bolstered by production from Karriem Riggins and America’s still sky-high racial tensions. The title track was an explosion of piano-laced rage and hope about the state of Black America that this new remix featuring Gucci Mane and Pusha T takes one step further. That’s right; Common, Guwop, and Push are all on the same track together.
What even more interesting, this is a remix in the traditional sense: a new rendition of an old beat with fresh verses from everyone involved and an unfortunate lack of Stevie Wonder. Gucci’s opening verse is more proof that’s he’s playing for keeps this year: “Come look into the eyes of a man named Gucci/Got me peeping out the blinds like Malcolm with the Uzi.” I guess we can put that All Lives Matter affiliation to rest?
Common talks the expanse of the Black diaspora while Pusha T laments Trayvon Martin missing his first year of college. This is one to hear. Peep the song above.
