Issa Rae‘s Insecure has brought yet another unique fold of the Black experience to television this season. The show, loosely based on her successful web series Awkward Black Girl, explores relationships and connectivity with Black women and men on the cusp of their early 30s. In a year where the Black experience has been given room to breathe on network TV, Rae’s unique insight and dramedic flourishes really help Insecure pop.

It doesn’t hurt that the show’s soundtrack is a perfect compliment. From Thundercat, The Internet, and KING to Goldlink and Anderson .Paak, it’s a lineup that could give Atlanta a run for its money. The Insecure team already knows that you wanna get your beak wet with these songs, and on the heels of the show’s second season renewal, I stumbled across some Spotify playlists created for each episode after taking the weekend to catch up on the show.
