Camp Lo, the Bronx rhyme duo of Geechi Suede and Sonny Cheeba, took fours years between their last release Ragtime High Times and the Pete Rock collab that preceded it, 80 Blocks From Tiffany’s. But even with a Geechi Suede solo album dropping next month they are already prepping fans for a new full length release in 2017, On The Way Uptown.
The first single and video, “Piece Of The Action,” is another nod to their blaxploitation era visual influences. Their oblique flows continue to hit you from unexpected angles as they assume their Cosby and Poitier personas. Sandwiching jaw-breaking drums between layers of dreamy keys Ski Beatz spreads a sheen of black ice for them to effortlessly skate on. If this is any indication of what we’re going to get next year we’ll reserve our Uber now for this trip uptown.
