Noah Coogler, known artistically as White Dave, has had music and gaming fans buzzing about his song “Bands” featured in the hot NBA 2K17 video game. The track has upwards of 62K plays on Soundcloud and is a prelude to his mixtape, Season of the Rich, dropping in December.
The Bay Area producer and rapper (who was named by his older brother, famed director Ryan Coogler) is celebrating the song’s success with the release of the lyric video to “Los Feliz,” a collar-popping freestyle running down a day in his marvelous life set to an 808 Mafia instrumental.
“Making music in Los Feliz was refreshing after spending a couple months in Hollywood,” Noah tells WatchLOUD. He was in Hollywood working on the mixtape while Ryan and his younger brother Keenan were there in the early stages of making Black Panther. “I felt a little more connected to my surroundings and what was happening in my life at the time. A more social and warm environment. I actually got inspired to do this freestyle after walking to Mixto for a lunch break in between recording sessions. Shout out Mixto one time!”
Noah has been building up to this moment for some time now. In 2012 he released the Richland LP, a joint venture with frequent collaborator Cliff Soulo and returned one year later with his 2013 Enjoy mixtape. He also contributed the songs “Intolerant,” “Let You Know” and “In The Kithen” to the Creed soundtrack, and his latest project will make its debut with the 25-year-old finding himself with richer beats and truer lyricism.
“I’m not afraid of anything musically,” he shares. “I want to do it all. In order to do it all, I have to be willing to step outside of my comfort zone. I won’t shy away from a challenge.”
Watch the video to “Lost Feliz” and cop that Season Of The Rich mixtape next month.
